No Horsing Around… Harmony In Hooves of Benton, AR Wins $25,000!

Picture of Shana’s daughter, Hannah, with Scratch the Horse.

Shana Rawlings, owner of Harmony In Hooves in Benton, Arkansas is the March winner of a $25,000 Intuit Hiring Grant on LoveALocalBusiness.com.  Harmony In Hooves is now a Finalist, along with Out of Proportion Studios and GoodOnYa Bar, to have their grant doubled to $50,000.

Harmony In Hooves is a non-profit organization (501c3 application pending) that helps children in its community: “Our goal is to provide a therapeutic riding facility where children and young adults, with or without disabilities, can learn all aspects of caring for, handling and riding horses as well as experience the love, freedom and magic that these wonderful creatures provide.”

Her fans truly love the work that she’s doing for her community.  The winning vote from Farrell states, “They are providing a great need for our community and area.”

Shana is planning to use the money to take her non-profit and the work it does to the next level.  First, she’s going to use the money to pay the fees to file her 501c3 paperwork.  Then, she’s finally going to be able to hire some horse trainers, by tapping into her current volunteer pool.  The remainder of the money will be put into paying the fees for therapy for kids who can’t afford it.

It’s not too late for you to be featured in our next winner’s announcement! Vote for your business today.

Shana is the perfect person for this huge job. This service goes far beyond just giving riding lessons...this is a project our community needs and she deserves to be rewarded for the time and effort she is putting into this endeavor. There are many, many children that will have their lives changed because of this service. Arkansas should be very proud to see this facility grow!!! Kay Butler

Congratulations. What a very deserving group and program H& H is. I am so excited to be a part of this program. What a difference a horse makes in a childs life who was unable to say "mama" before riding Lucky. This is a great program for some well needed individuals.

Congratulations and coo-doos to Harmony in Hooves for being recognized and honored for all the hard work you do to selflessly help so many children and older, by sharing the wonderful experiences of being with the horses. You take so much time with them, and teach them to love and understand the animals and in turn learn to love those around them. It is amazing, the responses you have gotten from your clients. Literally, lives have been changed for so much better, because you continually find new ways communicate with clients, some of them thought to not be able to communicate, but with love, patience, and the spirit of sharing, you have made tremendous strides in helping these young minds and bodies to be able to share such beautiful experiences with the horses and those around them that volunteer out of love for the clients. You do amazing work, Shana, and all those angels that are willing to volunteer their time and resourses to put a smile on the faces and minds of these wonderful clients.

Harmony in Hooves has allowed me to mix my love for horses with the love of being a speech therapist. For the past 3 years, I have been a hippotherapist at Harmony in Hooves. I have been able to witness first words, smiles, first steps and amazing moments that have changed the lives of children with disabilities and their families. There are no words for the miracles and blessings that all of us have been a part of who work and volunteer there. I'm so happy for H & H to have been a receipient of this grant. GOOD JOB. Keep it up. With this money, more lives have the opprotunity to be touched, more families will witness the bond between rider and horse and our community will bnefit from having such an incredible resource to call their own.

Congratulations to Shana and all the folks who make this program what it is! The time, energy, and love that has been poured into this program by all involved is priceless. It is so wonderful to see this hard work rewarded in such a huge way. The impact that H & H has made on the kids and our community is awesome and this grant will help extend it's outreach capabilities and hopefully allow it to touch other kids and families lives that might not have access otherwise.

Congratulations! What a wonderful blessing! It has been so great to be a part of Harmony In Hooves from the beginning. Watching not only the changes H&H has made in all the clients who ride and work with the horses, but also seeing the changes and growth that has occurred in all the volunteers and therapist who have been a part of the program. Shana is one of those angels here on earth, always wanting and striving for what is best for each individual in her life. I am thankful for the grant money H&H has won and pray that H&H will be blessed with the double portion. With that money, so many lives will be touched and changed for life. Way to go! Keep up the good work!

This is great news, but let us not forget that this but one victory in a never ending saga. Just check the statistics of children that could GREATLY benefit from a program like Shanna's, and you'll see that much more is needed. If anyone thinks that the horses couldn't make such a difference, just show up there one day, and observe. It is truly a GOD-given gift; the patience and love the horses have for the kids. Observe the joy, happiness, and love the kids have for the horses. This is truly a magnificent work that Shanna, and group, are doing for a most-deserving group of children. So, get in there, blog, and vote, lets get this organization that money!

Harmony in Hooves has helped so many children have a better lives! One time my daughter was in a horse show and Shana's students were showing off what they had learned from the program. A mother of one of the students turned to me and said, "Look at my son...he was barely talking when we brought him to Harmony In Hooves. Now he is able to communicate with us better and it's because of his work with the horses!" I'm so happy Shana has received some extra money because the possibilities are limitless as to what she can do with the children. Congratulations to Harmony in Hooves!!

Shana & the whole Harmony in Hooves "family" are such an inspiration & blessing to children, and young adults, who have their own unique challenges. The horses are an amazing therapeutic necessity to many, if not ALL of the riders! Shana has touched so many lives by opening the gates to her farm. Thanks to intuit and all the people who see the wonderful small business she has created in a little city of Arkansas, she will take it to the next level and show people with and without disabilities what a difference therapeutic riding can make!!!

I am so blessed to be able to volunteer at Harmony in Hooves! It has become part of my life and I wish I could volunteer even more than I do now. I love the horses and getting to work with them. they are such wonderful animals. They truly have a way of healing a person whether you have disabilities or not. I can't even imagine my life without them! Getting to see the children every week and watch them get better is one of the most rewarding things I have ever got to do. Even at the end of the day when you are tired, it makes it all worth while to see the child smile and give the horse a hug before they go. Shana, Without you there would be no Harmony in Hooves. you are so caring and are amazing with horses. You are like family to me. I can't wait to see where this donation is going to take Harmony in Hooves!

I am so honored to have the oppurtunity to be a therapist of such an amazing organization. We have come so far and we are well on our way of fufilling our dreams! I am so fortunate that I have been given the oppurtunity to learn how to work with horses and to witness the great things it provides to our clients. The smiles of each child and parent touched by this is worth every minute that I spend doing it. Thank you so much Shana for tackling such a HUGE project and allowing me to do what I love in your own backyard!!!

I want to say THANK YOU! to everyone involved with Harmony In Hooves, from riders, volunteers, therapists, friends, family, fans and horses. Without each one of you, we could not do what we do. To our riders: you are all such an amazing influence in my life as well as all of our team. The smiles you share and the laughter we here while you ride warms our hearts.Thank you to everyone that voted for us on Lovealocalbusiness.com. Because of your votes the first thing I can concentrate on is getting the 501(c)3 status and going forward with helping more riders. I will start searching for an attorney so we can get this going as quickly as possible. The application is started but it didn't take me long to decide that it was something I did not want to tackle alone. Dealing with the IRS must be done properly and that form is quite long.We opened our gates in fall of 2008 with only 7 riders and each year we grow more and more. Currently we serve just over 30 riders, with 6 therapists and I am personally working on receiving my registered therapeutic riding instructer certification through NARHA. The therapists and I decided in the very beginning that we did not want to grow to fast because what we do is way to important to do incorrectly. With Gods help and guidance we will continue to grow and help more riders along the way. There are so many things that are needed on a farm and these funds will help so much. We must look at dispursing the funds where they will help most. Some things to consider are setting up and hiring a volunteer coordinator to help recruit and schedule volunteers. Volunteers are a very big part of what we do and without them our facility will not work. We currently have riders on a waiting list, but do not have the number of needed volunteers to handle them. Some of the funding could be used to pay a salary to some current volunteers that now go above and beyond their call and lend the extra help that is needed when we have no riders on the grounds: grooming, exercising, feeding the horses and babysitting them when we are away.During the coming days we will look at the many things that need to be done an go forward with decisions that will best utilize the funds to help us continue helping our riders and our horses.
